Situation: Lear Corporation, a supplier of seats for automobiles, operates a very flexible manufacturing facility, set up to deal with the just-in-time demands of auto companies. As demand began to grow, Lear was having a difficult time meeting demand and ensuring product quality. Space in the facility was also limited.
Use Case: Lear introduced cobot robotic arm from Universal Robots to their assembly line. This cobot is used to screw together the seats and the frames. It is equipped with “machine vision” and can tell when a seat arrives that is missing screws. The cobot will flag that seat for quality control.
Measureable result: Lear was able to improve the quality of its seats and the output of its facilities using the Universal Robots cobot, enabling the firm to remain competitive under the pressures of just-in-time production.
